The anode of a lithium ion battery was prepared by the thermal treatment of pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) utilizing the following three steps: PFO→pitch→coke→anode. To improve the electrochemical properties of the prepared anode in a lithium ion battery, we investigated the optimal preparation (pitch→coke) conditions of coke from petroleum residue. The prepared anode that was prepared by intermediate heating at 500°C exhibited a high discharge capacity of 419 mAh g-1 and a first-cycle Coulombic efficiency of 82.0%. The true density, CO2 adsorption/desorption and XRD analysis results indicate that the intermediate heating improved the degree of crystallization, provided a well-ordered and suitable micropore structure and increased the quantity of lithium storage sites. |
