Ring hydrogenation of aromatic amines is one of the significant methodologies to produce alicyclic amines which find various applications such as pharmacology, agrochemicals, and important raw material for carbamates and isocyanates in terms of producing non-yellowing polyurethanes. Herein, a facile synthetic pathway to produce hydroxypropyl cyclohexyl carbamates (HPCC) with high selectivity and yield in the presence of a new catalyst system and a comprehensive reaction-parameter variation study involving substrate concentration, catalyst (type of loaded metal and support), pressure, solvent, and reaction temperature are provided. After reaction, catalyst can be recycled and reused without any apparent loss of activity which makes this process cost effective and hence ecofriendly. |
