Carbon/carbon (C/C) composites by liquid impregnation were usually carried out by various cycles of impregnation and re-carbonization until the desired density is achieved. However, densification process has a direct impact on the processing cost, studies have been continually carried to achieve fabrication of C/C composites through a single manufacturing process. The objective of this study is therefore to investigate the matrix with added binder pitches of petroleum-type pitch by using fluidized catalytic cracking-decant oils (FCC-DO). Optical textures of blends of phenolic resins and binder pitches were characterized by polarized-light microscopy. In addition, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to analyze matrix system. |
