제목 Mechanistic Study on Selective Aerobic Oxidation of Sulfur Mustard Simulant
초록 A new metal-free catalytic reaction system of tribromide and nitrate is designed to selectively oxidize 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES), a simulant of sulfur mustard, into 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfoxide (CEESO). The system exhibits a high catalytic activity at ambient conditions without addition of any mineral or organic acid, which is commonly used in most other metal-free catalytic systems. A detailed mechanistic study reveals that tribromide plays a key role in the formation of bromosulfonium reactive intermediate and nitrate is further involved in the oxidation of the intermediate to produce final product. A fundamental kinetic model fully describing the overall reaction behaviors of CEES oxidation and the buildup of open catalytic loop is developed. In this presentation, mechanistic modeling and engineering strategies will be extensively discussed for the efficient design of reacting systems for selective sulfoxidation.
