Preparation and Characterization of Crosslinked PVA/Blocked Polyurethane Nanofibers using Electrospinning |

Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and Blocked Polyurethane (BPU) were prepared by electrospinning process and thermal crosslinking. The combined experimental results of FT-IR and 13C NMR clearly demonstrated that chemical crosslinking between the hydroxyl group of PVA and the isocyanate group of BPU were formed. Based on TGA and DSC results, it was realized that upon increasing the BPU content, thermal stabilities of PVA/BPU nanofibers were enhanced. Utilizing FE-SEM, the average diameter of the electrospun PVA/BPU nanofibers was evaluated to be around 200 nm. Compared with the pristine PVA nanofibers, the crosslinked PVA nanofibers with BPU increased the contact angle, and the tensile strength. Based on the experimental results and careful analysis, it was concluded that the improved tensile strength and water resistance of the crosslinked PVA/BPU nanofibers with respect to BPU contents were due to the decrease of hydroxyl groups in PVA and the increase of crosslinking density. |
