Recently, nanofiber based on the biomass emerged on various applications such as enhancing the mechanical property and gas barrier. Chitosan, a deacetylated form of chitin, has a sub-unit of β-(1,4)-2-amido-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranose, being the second-most abundant naturally occurring biopolymer. The amino group, which is rare in polysaccharides, of chitosan can be used as a reactive site with the carboxylic acid of hyaluronic acid, resulting in the formation of the polyelectrolyte. In the experiment, the substrate film was orderly immerged in anionic and the cationic dilute solutions and dried in a vacuum oven. The oxygen transmission rate (OTR) value decreased with the number of layers and showed <0.005 cc/m2/day/atm with 40 layers. In particular, the change range of OTR decreased with increasing the relative humidity due to the formation of polyelectrolyte complex keeping strong interaction between anionic and cationic functional groups. |
