The mediated electrochemical oxidation (MEO) process was employed for the destruction of organics in continuous mode. Cerium(IV) was used as an oxidant in nitric acid medium. The organics destructed were phenol, benzoquinone, hydroquinone, catechol, maleic acid. In all cases almost 95 % destruction efficiency was achieved both in terms of CO2 and TOC analyses. The rate constant values were calculated for all organics during the continuous process of organic addition and destruction based on our previous model. The rate constants obtained from batch reaction shows the existence of two different kinetic regimes. The rate constants obtained from the model fitting was explained to be the average of the two kinetically different processes. |
