Mediated Electrochemical Oxidation Process: Determination of Rate Constants for the Destruction of Phenol in Batch and Continuous Feeding Modes |

The mediated electrochemical oxidation (MEO) process was employed for the destruction of phenol in batch and continuous modes. Cerium(IV) was used as an oxidant in nitric acid medium. In all cases almost 95 % destruction efficiency was achieved both in terms of CO2 and TOC analyses. The rate constant values were calculated for all phenol during the batch and in continuous process of organic addition. In case of continuous organic feeding mode the rate constant was calculated based on a simple mathematical procedure. The rate constants obtained from batch reaction shows the existence of two different kinetic regimes. The rate constants obtained from the model fitting was explained to be the average of the two kinetically different processes. |
