Nowadays, polyurethane (PU) has been widely used in several fields of our life due to its outstanding physical properties. However, the generation of micro-cracks may be occurred by the effect of mechanical crushing, UV radiation, chemical corrosion, etc. during the using process will shorten their service life. Self-healing materials can become a potential solution for the degradation properties caused by micro-crack problems. Among many approaches for self-healing polymers, the Diels-Alder (DA) reaction is fascinating for its thermal reversibility, mild condition, and least side-reaction. In this research, we synthesized furan-backbone type PU using furan-diol, PTMG and HDI. For DA reaction, 1,1′-(Methylenedi-4,1-phenylene)bismaleimide was introduced to the furan-backbone type PUs. Self-healing process was observed by optical microscopy equipped with a hot stage and self-healing efficiency was calculated based on tensile strength of the samples before and after self-healing process. |
