The inferior mechanical strength of waterborne polyurethane limits their application. Therefore, increasing polymer crosslinking density and hybridizing them with inorganic oxide particles in situ into the polymer matrix can significantly improve their properties. The study uses the sol-gel process to incorporate Nano-silica into a chemical blend of two independently synthesized polyurethane prepolymers. The NCO-terminated prepolymer will be capped using APTES as a coupling agent followed by hydrolysis of the ethoxy group of PU and condensation with the silanol groups of nano silica to form siloxane. FT-IR, TEM, and SEM will be used characterize and study the morphology and structure of the nanocomposite while crystallization and thermal behavior will be determined by XRD, DSC and TGA analyses techniques. |
