제목 Design and evaluation of the dry reforming of methane-based acetic acid plant avoiding pipe corrosion
초록 Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is one of the promising CO2 conversion technologies for mitigating CO2 emissions. It has high CO2 utilization ratio (CH4:CO2=1:1) and is expected to achieve the significant CO2 reduction effect accordingly. One of the feasible options to utilize the produced syngas (H2/CO=1) is acetic acid production via 2H2+2CO→CH3COOH. The conventional processing route employs methanol carbonylation path. However, it requires high operating pressure (about 30 bar) so that the produced acetic acid can easily corrode pipes. As an alternative, this study focuses on another DRM-based acetic acid plant adopting the dimethyl ether (DME) carbonylation path. It requires only atmospheric pressure for the operation, so the corrosion problem can be avoided. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the process, process design and simulation is performed by using a process simulator Aspen plus®. In addition, CO2 lifecycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis are carried out to examine the feasibility of the designed process by comparison with the conventional case.
