제목 | Co/Zn double metal cyanide cataslysed ring-opening polymerization of proplylene oxide: Effect of co-complexing agent and co-catalysts on polymerization behavior. |
초록 | Double metal cyanide (DMC) complexes have interested a broad-spectrum of scientists with respect to their outstanding properties of ring opening polymerization (ROP) of epoxides and the synthesis of propylene oxide based polyether polyols (PPG), which are used in a wide range of polyurethane application. DMC catalysts discovered in early 1960s by researchers at General Tire and Rubber Co. are well know catalysts for epoxide polymerization. The catalysts are highly active, and give polyether polyols that have low unsaturation and narrow molecular weight distribution (MWD) compared to with similar polyols made using basic (KOH) catalysts. But DMC catalysts must normally be activated before the epoxide can be added continuously to the reactor. Usually a polyol imitator, and a DMC catalyst are combined and heated under vacuum prior to the addition of a small proportion of monomer. Long initiation time, say several hours, increases cycle time, which undercuts the economic advantage of faster polymerization. Recent development shows that addition of some co-complexing agents during the preparation of the catalysts can decrease the induction period and hence increase the activity. In this paper we discussed about the effect of various co-complexing agents on the induction period and activity. We also found that the addition of some quaternary ammonium salts along with the starter can decrease the induction period remarkably and also increases the rate of reaction. In this paper we also discuss about the effect of various quaternary ammonium salts on the induction period and activity. The detailed characterization of the catalysts as well as the polyols were also carried out. |
