Amphiphilic block copolymers have been widely used for enhancement of emulsion stability due to their intriguing properties, such as strong adsorption to oil-water interfaces and long chain relaxation thereon. In this work, we synthesized novel poly (ethylene oxide)-b-poly (ε-caprolactone)-b-poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO-b-PCL-b-PEO) triblock copolymers by condensation reaction. The triblock copolymers synthesized in this study have tunable hydrophilic/hydrophobic block ratio. We investigated their micellization and emulsification behaviors. The structure of polymeric micelles were controlled by solely changing their composition. Assembling them at the oil-water interface by using the phase inversion method enabled production of highly stable nanoscale emulsions, which is originated from formation of a highly resilient polymeric thin membrane at the interface. |
