Development of Low-Cost and Highly Regeneratable Biosorbent from Waste Lyocell Using Response Surface Methodology and Application to the Biosroption of Cd(II) Ions |
초록 |
A low-cost and highly regeneratable biosorbent with the ability to grant several cycles of use was developed from waste fabric form Lyocell through a simple two-step modification. Proof of modification success was affirmed by SEM and FTIR characterization tests. Response surface methodology was employed in optimizing the process parameters for enhanced performance. Except reaction time, factors such as sodium chloroacetate concentration, temperature and Epichlorohydrin concentration significantly influenced the uptake of the modified sorbent. The modified sorbent had about 13 to 14 fold higher uptake than the original Lyocell. Isotherm data obtained at pH 6 and pH 4 fitted well to the Langmuir model than the Freundlich model and the kinetics data were best described by the pseudo-first-order model. pH studies depicted that higher pH values favoured higher uptakes but as low as pH 4, the uptake was still very splendid and this was viewed to be an added attribute of the modified sorbent. |
