Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) reaction for synthesizing hydrocarbons from syngas has been largely investigated to efficiently utilize natural gas, and shale gas and so on. In the present study, modified mesoporous SBA-15 with Zr species are used as supports for the preparation of iron-containing FTS catalysts to elucidate the effects of mesoporosity and Zr-modification. The Zr-modified SBA-15 support was synthesized by varying molar ratio of Si/Zr through hydrothermal synthesis, and 15wt% iron was subsequently impregnated to increase the catalytic activity and stability. While Zr component was added to the pure SBA-15, the catalytic activity was dramatically increased without significant variation of hydrocarbon distribution. In order to analyze the surface properties of the as-prepared catalysts, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature-programmed reduction (H2-TPR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) were carried out. |
