The reinforcement of polymers by the addition of graphene nanosheet has attracted considerable attentions during recent decades because the nanocomposites can exhibit significantly improved mechanical, thermal, gas barrier, electrical and flame retardant properties or new functional properties at low filler loading. In this study, nylon 12/graphene nanocomposites with 0.1-1.0 wt% content of graphene were synthesized by in-situ ring opening polymerization of laurolactam in the presence of graphene oxide using water as an initiator and phosphoric acid as a catalyst. Dispersion of the graphene in PA12 along with the structure and properties of the graphene before and after the polymerization were investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD, and Raman analysis. Thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties of the nylon12/graphene nanocomposites were investigated by DSC, TGA, DMA, tensile testing and ARES, respectively. |
