Self-assembled nanotubes or helices have attracted great attention in nanotechnology due to their unusual properties. We synthesized the novel organic gel system utilizing the one-dimension alignment nature of the 1,3,5-s-triazine moiety containing cholesterol based molecules. We designed new building blocks based on triazine skeleton which can be organized into diverse helical structures. The 1,3,5-s-triazine moiety selective reactivities of three chlorine atoms on cyanuric chloride toward a variety of nucleophiles provide synthetic versatility for AB2 monomers. The cholesterol unit was introduced to induce self-organization via van der Waals interaction. In addition, two aminophenoxy groups were introduced to the triazine ring to provide hydrogen bonding site in organic media. The structural requirements in the triazine building blocks for self-assembly into helices and nanotubes were systematically investigated. |
