제목 The liquid crystal and Electric properties of unsymmertrical dimmers containing cholesterol and cyanoazobenzene
초록 Cholesteric LCs shows the unique optical properties from their helical structure: the selective reflection of light. The selective reflection is exhibited only when the helix axis is normal to the cell surface. The reflected colour is influenced by the temperature, magnetic field, electric field, chemical compositions and external force. Cholesteric LCs are expected to be useful as active media for reflection-type display. Particularly, if the wavelength of the selective reflection is in the visible region, these cholesteric materials would have excellent potential for full-color display with particularly low electric power consumption. In this paper, we synthesized the series of asymmertric dimesogenic compounds containing cholesterol and cyanoazobenzene with photoresponse and electrical response via the alkylene spacers and their thermal, optical and electric properties on liquid crystal phase were investigated.
