1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-glucitol (ISB) is a heterocyclic diol derived from renewable resources. The incorporations of ISB to polyurethanes (PUs) are expected to improve the glass transition temperature and mechanical properties of Pus due to its rigidity and chirality. However, only limited amount of ISB can be incorporated into PU as a chain extender in the prepolymer methods. In this study, polyester polyols prepared from ISB and diacids were synthesized via polycondensation reaction in order to prepare waterborne polyurethanes. Waterborne polyurethanes were prepared from the prepolymers of polyester polyol and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), ethylene diamine, and 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propanoic acid (DMPA) as a dispersing agent. It is postulated that the hydrophilicity of ISB improve the stabilities of waterborne polyurethanes. The particle sizes of WPUDs prepared were examined, and the thermal and mechanical properties of PU films were investigated by employing UTM, DMA, and DSC. |
