Controlled release of drug elutingstent of the sirolimus-loaded biodegradable polymers |

Because of the importance of controlled release of drug, the influence of surface condition of biodegradable polymer has received much attention from stent researchers. Hansen’s solubility parameter can be used to quantify the solubility. This study aimed to correlate solubility parameter with initial burst of drug in different proportions of lactide to glycolide in PLGA or in mixed solvents. The release of sirolimus from poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) matrix was measured by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that as the difference between solvent and polymer solubility parameter decreased, the initial burst decreased. |
