Electrospinning of Highly Dispersed Carbon Nanotubes-Reinforced Nanocomposites Using Hyperbranched Polymer |

The dispersion of carbon nanotubes in the polymer matrix is very important for obtaining carbon nanotubes-reinforced polymer nanofibers by electrospinning. In our study, the hyperbranched polymer was employed so as to improve dispersion of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs). As a polymer matrix, poly(ε-caprolactone)-based polyurethane (PU) was used, and hyperbranched polyurethane (HBP) was synthesized using castor oil. The PU/MWNTs solution showed an enhanced dispersion of MWNTs in PU matrix even when only a small amount of HBP was added. It was found in this study that better electrospinning could be achieved than that in conventional MWNTs nanocomposites. Effects of HBP on the dispersion of MWNTs in HBP-included PU and electrospinning of the nanocomposites are investigated.
