Melanin is known to play a positive role in inhibition of skin cancer by UV irradiation. At the same time, it can negatively contribute to either a skin aging or a formation of freckle. In this study, we focus on how to eliminate the latter effects. To do this, ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and phenol mixture solutions were prepared, and then dropped into melatonin which was a precursor of the melanin. When tracing possible chemical reactions by using UV/vis, FT-IR, and 1H-NMR spectroscopies, it was found that indole part of melatonin was opened. |
