Equilibrium swelling of networks capable of separating into a swollen and collapsed phase is discussed on the basis of a concentration dependent pair interaction parameter. The swelling behavior of submicron gel particles showed a continuous volume phase transition for various chain length. The swelling behavior equilibrium model consists of extended Flory-Huggins model for mixing solvent and net work with a modified Flory-Rehner theory for the elastic contribution. Flory-Huggins model is well known that the model has energy parameter ε reflecting the interaction between water and gel network. In a previous study we modified a double lattice model by introducing a new interaction parameter, which improved the mathematical approximation defect, and gave a new expression for the Helmoltz energy of mixing. In this study we are using a modified double lattice model instead of Flory-huggins mixing term. |
