Recently, within flood of information such as mobile phone and internet communication large quantity information is rapidly increasing. A superhigh speed optical communication is getting into the spotlight in communication enterprise of next generation domestically and exteriorly. The Er(III) cation shows an intra 4f shell transition from its first excited state to the ground state, which occurs at a wavelength of 1.54㎛ which is used for optical amplifier. It is hard that Er(III) ions get an amplified emission by directly exciting them because of poor absorption coefficient. Therefore, we have synthesized novel erbium(III)-encapsulated hybrid materials to get a highly optical amplification gain. The materials are composed of various mono- and di-substituted amide ligands including functionalized alkoxysilyl groups and their Er(III)-encapsulated complexes. We will present the design, synthesis and photophysical properties of new highly efficient erbium(III)-encapsulated hybrid materials via sol-gel process for optical amplifier applications. |
