제목 Nafion/Poly (vinyl alcohol) blended and nano composite membranes for Vanadium Redox Flow Battery application
초록 The Nafion solution was blended with the Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution (10-30wt.%) for Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB). PVA is hydrophilic linear polymer, that is water-soluble and non-toxic with excellent mechanical properties. Sulfosuccinic acid (SSA) was added as a crosslinking agent not to dissolve in water. Montmorillonite (MMT) nanoclay (2-6wt.%) was applied to the VRFB system as the ion-exchange membrane to reduce the vanadium crossover and enhance the VRFB system performance. MMT is well-known layered silicate, which was used as the filler added into the Nafion polymer membrane. The prepared composite membranes were analyzed by SEM to observe the microstructure of the membranes. Thickness, water uptake, ion conductivity and crossover of the membrane were measured to evaluate the membrane properties as compared with Nafion117.
