Layer-by-Layer (LbL) assembly is an effective method proposed to develop multilayer driven by molecular interactions. Multilayered structures can modulate desirable functions for biomedical applications. Despite the potential of the LbL technique, a few challenges remain for its application in medical films, such as high time consumption, denaturation of proteins, expensive biomolecules and small-scale settings. To overcome the limitations, we developed a high-throughput assembly system by integrating LbL assembly with inkjet printing as a rapid film-making technique. Inkjet printing is very useful with expensive biomolecules because of controlling ink drop placement to drop small droplets with accurate volumes. We demonstrated multilayers with desired structures on various substrates. Moreover, we enhanced the proliferation of fibroblast cell and maintained the pluripotency of iPS cell by basic fibroblast growth factor released from printed nanofilms. |
