Controllable synthesis of poly(4-vinyl pyridine) by ARGET ATRP |

Activators Regenerated by Electron Transfer (ARGET) Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) is a relatively new and versatile method in the synthesis of a large number of polymers with controlled molecular weights and low polydispersities. In this study, controlled/living radical polymerization of 4-vinyl pyridine was carried out via ARGET ATRP. The polymerization of 4-vinyl pyridine poses a very challenging problem because both 4-vinyl pyridine and poly(4-vinyl pyridine) are strong coordination ligands that compete for the binding of metal catalysts in the polymerization system. |
