Soft magnetic (Co, Ni, 80Ni20Fe) and hard magnetic (CoNiP, CoPtP) nanowires and thin films were fabricated using electrodeposition process with anodized aluminum template. Magnetic properties of nanowires compared with equivalent electrodeposited thin films were studied. Soft magnetic (Co, Ni, 80Ni20Fe) nanowires compared with those of equivalent electrodeposited thin films exhibited higher parallel coercivity and lower parallel squareness. Hard magnetic CoNiP nanowires showed higher parallel and perpendicular coercivity than equivalent electrodeposited thin films. However, hard magnetic CoPtP nanowires compared with equivalent electrodeposited thin films have lower coercivity. Co nanowires exhibited maximum coercivity and squareness when the direction of the applied magnetic field and anodized aluminum template are parallel, showing the decrease of coercivity and squareness with increasing the angle. However, 80Ni20Fe and CoPtP nanowires showed an increase of coercivity and squareness with increasing the angle. CoNiP nanowires showed a transition from anisotropic (wire length ~ <10μm) to isotropic properties (wire length ~ >10μm) depending on the length of nanowires. |
