MRI is a powerful diagnostic imaging modality that can visualize the internal anatomy of living organisms noninvasively with high resolution and no radiation. To enhance image contrast between the region of interest(e.g. tumor, blood-pool) and the background, contrast agents (CAs), mostly gadolinium-based CAs, are widely used in clinic. Herein, we synthesized GdDOTA-SA, which is gadolinium-based CAs functionalized with a long alkyl chain. Due to the long alkyl chain, GdDOTA-SA has larger relaxivity than the relaxivity of clinical MRI CAs such as Dotarem. In addition, because GdDOTA-SA could form micelle structures in aqueous phase, it is expected to improve delivery of MRI CAs and to have higher relaxivity. |
