Cobalt supramolecular basic triple-stranded helicates, Co8(PDA)6(AIP)3(DMF)6 (1), were successfully synthesized through the reaction of cobalt acetate tetrahydrate (Co(OAc)2).4H2O, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid (H2PDA), and 5-aminoisophthalic acid (AIP) in DMF (PDA = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, AIP = 5-aminoisophthalate, DMF = dimethylformamide). The compound (1) is composed of two tetranuclear cobalt clusters diagonally interconnected by three AIPs, resulting in a novel inorganic supramolecular structure with left-handed helical geometry. Interestingly, owing to the availability of amino and oxygen atoms which orientate outwards, an exceptional higher-order framework was obtained using (1) as supramolecular building blocks which are interconnected by metal ions. |
