Streamlined microwave-assisted preparation of Low Bandgap Conjugated Polymers based on diketopyrrolopyrrole |

A novel conjugated polymer comprising diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) was successfully synthesized by microwave-assisted direct heteroarylation polymerization. DPP was used as an electron-withdrawing unit which was coupled with electron-donating comonomeric units to build efficient low bandgap polymers for photovoltaic applications. By using microwave irradiation and heating in combination with the screening of comonomer reactant ratios, we obtained the copolymers with high average molecular weights in relatively high yields with simple purification of the final polymer product. The chemical structures, thermal and optical properties of the final polymers were precisely characterized by various characterization techniques such as NMR, GPC, cyclic voltammetry and spectrophotometer. |
