Preparation of PNIPAm hydrogel composite membranes and their morphological and flux characteristics |

Thermo-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) hydrogel microspheres were incorporated into the polyethersulfone (PES) microfiltration membrane in order to improve the hydrophilicity of membrane surface and to endow the membrane with thermo-responsive characteristics and to have control of flux ability. PES/PNIPAm composite membranes were prepared by phase inversion and diffusion in the mixed solvents of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether with polyethylene glycol 600 as plasticizer. The interrelationship between hydrogel size distribution and flux ability in composite membranes was studied. |
