Carbon dioxide has been promoted as a sustainable solvent, as CO2 is non-flammable, relatively low toxic and naturally abundant. Micronization of the poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymers was successfully performed using carbon dioxide as a supercritical antisolvent. PEO-PPO-PEO microparticle showed attractive capability to absorb hydrophilic compounds. Methanol, ethanol and acetone were included as solvents for PEO-PPO-PEO to study solvent effects on particle morphologies. The effects of pressure, temperature and PEO-PPO-PEO concentration on particle morphologies were also investigated.. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser particle size analyzer were used to characterize particle size and morphologies. |
