Long lasting and soft photonic crystal gel was fabricated by infilling HEMA-co-AAm solution into a uniformly close-packed PS template. The soft PC gel, by using a nonvolatile solvent (Ethylene glycol), shows a reversible color change in response to mechanical force even in a harsh environment which enclose evaporation process in a vacuum oven during 24 hours. The sample also maintained its initial mechanical properties of softness and stretchability as well as color tunability. Considering the softness and long lasting properties of the gel, it would be a great potential for various applications of photonic crystal gel. |
