C-phycocyanin-doxorubicin conjugate for synergistic chemo-photodynamic tumor therapy |

C-Phycocyanin (CPC), a natural blue-colored pigment, is attracting attention due to its unique photodynamic activity, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. The aim of this study is to synthesize and evaluate a C-phycocyanin-doxorubicin (CPD) conjugate as a synergistic chemo-photodynamic tumor therapeutic agent. The CPD conjugate was successfully synthesized and formed self-assembled nanospheres in aqueous solution. After 635 nm laser irradiation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) in CT26 cells by CPC treatment was generated effectively. In addition, the production of ROS in CT26 cells by CPD treatment after the laser irradiation increased effectively enough to kill tumor cells. All these results indicate that CPD could become an attractive agent for chemo-photodynamic tumor therapy. |
