We demonstrate a bio-inspired facile method to chemically modify the surface of electrospun poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers for the synthesis of inorganic-polymer hybrid nanostructures. Firstly, polydopamine (pD)-coated PCL nanofibers are generated by oxdative polymerization of dopamines in an alkaline aqueous condition. The generated pD layer, which has a mild reduction potential of -530 mV vs. normal hydrogen electrode (NHE), can reduce gold precursor ions to gold nanostructures, generating highly porous Au-PCL hybrid nanostructures. The prepared fuctional hybrid nanostuructures are evaluated for their catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. |
