Siloxane-based elastomers are high-performance materials having excellent oxidative and thermal stability, biocompatibility, and high gas and vapor permeability. In particular, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is the most important siloxane and it is also useful membrane materials for gas and vapor separation. PDMS is well-known as the most permeable rubbery polymer. Here we designed OH-containing polyimide/siloxane block copolymers with various compositions of amine-terminated PDMS (Mw=900) in order to incorporate silica phase into organic matrix after thermal oxidation step. PDMS portion was thermally oxidized at 250 oC at air condition and also OH-containing polyimide was converted to polybenzoxazole (PBO) after thermal rearrangement at 450 oC. The gas permeability and physical properties of PBO/silica membranes were characterized with silica content. |
