The Synergistic Effect of Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) (EVOH)/Clay Nanocomposite as Distributed Phase in the Polypropylene (PP) Based Blend System |
초록 |
Polypropylene (PP) is widely used polymer in many industrial fields. However, it has not been welcomed in food packaging application due to its poor oxygen barrier. Because of this, nanoclay has often been employed to improve oxygen barrier properties. In this study, EVOH/clay nanocomposite containing 5 wt% nanoclay in the EVOH matrix was firstly fabricated and applied as a distributed phase in a PP based blend. At this time, EVOH was used as a carrier system to distribute the nanoclay into the hydrophobic PP matrix. The size of the distributed phase was optimized by controlling the amount of PP grafted maleic anhydride (PP-g-MA) as a compatibilizer. Then, EVOH/clay nanocomposites were prepared into powder form by cryo-grinding process and compared with granule type. The mechanical and rheological properties of nanocomposite based blends have been characterized. |
