Development of toughened polypropylene (PP) with balanced mechanical properties and melt processibility has been extensively studied. In this study, PP/hyperbranched polymer (HBP) blend was prepared by melt blending in an internal mixer. Part of end hydroxyl groups of the HBP was modified to have long chain alkyl group by esterification with stearic acid. Thermal, mechanical and rheological properties of the blends were characterized by DSC, tensile testing and oscillating rheometer, respectively. The results revealed that the addition of small amount of HBP induced an increase in flexibility and toughness along with decrease in glass transition temperature and melt viscosity of PP without significant sacrificing the strength. |
