Copolymers are one of the most interesting materials because they can make various nanostructures by assembly and used in nanotechnology. Among them, macromolecule having continuously changed monomer composition along the backbone is gradient copolymer. In spite of their potential, the synthetic method and single chain imaging analysis are rarely studied. In this study, we used combination of two kinds of ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) reactive monomer, and introduced the dendron moiety to the monomer to make the microscopically visible polymer. With these dendronized macromonomers, gradient copolymer is synthesized because of reactivity difference on ROMP between two monomers. The reactivity ratio and polymerization kinetics were determined by 1H NMR, and the polymers were characterized by multi angle laser light scattering (MALLS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The molecular weights of polymers were more than 200 k, and clear height image could be obtained. |
