Functionalized Mesoporous Silicas for Selective Adsorption of Lithium Ions in Artificial Sea Water |

We studied on the adsorption of Li+ with high selectivity using crown ether moieties-functionalized mesoporous silica materials (AC-SBA-15 and HMC-SBA-15) in the artificial seawater. Crown ether moieties were anchored on the mesopore walls via post synthesis process. For AC-SBA-15 and HMC-SBA-15, both absorbents have high absorbed amount of Li+ with 1.1X10-3 mol/g. The absorbed amount of Co2+ (4.5X10-5), Cr3+(1.5X10-5mol/g) and Hg2+ (2.25X10-4mol/g) was remarkbly smaller than Li+ for AC-SBA-15 as an absorbent. The absorbed amount of Li+ was 73 times higher than Cr ion (Cr3+) for AC-SBA-15 as an absorbent. On the other hand, for HMC-SBA-15 as an absorbent, the absorbed amount of Co2+ (5.0X10-5 mol/g), Cr3+ (2.9X10-4 mol/g) and Hg2+ (2.8X10-4 mol/g) were slightly higher than that of AC-SBA-15. This result may be generated due to the interaction between metal ions and -NH moieties in functionalized groups on the mesopores. |
