제목 Photo-assisted Pre-oxidation of Activated Carbon Pellets for CO2 Selective Adsorption
초록 A CO2 adsorbent was prepared by two-step treatment viz pre-oxidation and amination. Ozone and hydroperoxide were used as pre-oxidants with and without UV-C irradiation. Chemical characterization revealed that all pre-oxidation conditions increased the total amount of oxygen tethered on the carbon surface but in the presence of UV-C, larger amount of new functional groups were formed while the total amount of O-groups were reduced. Upon amination, specific oxygen groups such as ether, carbonyl and carboxylic groups were subject to form N-groups as pyridine and pyrrole-N types which comparatively showed higher affinity for CO2. These N-groups were found in larger amounts in carbons pre-oxidized with O3 under UV-C. Smaller micropores might have contributed to the enhanced CO2 selectivity. H2O2 yielded the least improvement while O3 with UV-C brought about the best result, both improving the low-level adsorption capacity of RAC from 0.016mmol/g to 0.088 and 0.260mmol/g.
