Amidines react with CO2 in the presence of water or alcohol to form amidinium bicarbonate salts. The carbonated amidine can be reverted to the decarbonated form by bubbling with N2 gas or heating. 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-ene (DBU) is one of amidines, which shows good controlled reversible CO2-sorption/desorption property. We synthetically combined DBU and alcohol to make DBU-alcohol having higher bp than DBU to solve the corrosion by evaporation of the capture agent. This novel DBU-alcohol could capture CO2 gas effectively without any other molecules. In addition, DBU-alcohol was mixed with dry silica gel to form powdery CO2 scrubber, which can help to release the heat of reaction and to capture CO2 faster. The CO2-sorption/desorption property was confirmed by NMR, TGA, and mass change. |
