In this study, we prepared the hydrophilic SiO2 particles attached onto core-shell fibers by EJC. OM and FESEM micrograph reveals uniform and smooth surfaces with physically attached SiO2 particles and core-shell fibers respectively. The encapsulated rhodamine-B release test was studied using a UV visible spectroscope. These physically attached SiO2 particles were embedded into the core-shell fibers by solvent annealing with different times. It concludes that 30 mins of solvent annealing gives half embedded SiO2 particles. In particular, we propose strategies for on-off drug release system. The fibers consist of two layers, with SiO2 attached outer layer of PLA as shell and PEO as the inner core, in which the dye is encapsulated. By varying the bath sonication time for SiO2 particles attached core-shell fibers, the release rate of dye was controllable. This work suggests one possible approach for controlled release of such actives using SiO2 particles attached core-shell fibers. |
