Polymerization of High Molecular Weight Polylactide using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide |

Polylactide, an aliphatic polyester with high-molecular-weight was synthesized through the ring-opening-polymerization in supercritical carbon dioxide. In this work we use Sn(II)octoate as catalyst in lactide ROP. Supercritical carbon dioxide has gas-like diffusivity, liquid-like density, and tunable solvating powers makes it suitable to replace organic solvents in polymer processing. The polymer were evaluated by gel permeation chromatography, thermogravimetric analyses, and differential scaning calorimetry. The molecular weight was evaluated as function of time, pressure, and temperature. The molecular weight dependence on pressure was investigated in this work. |
