Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/polymer composites have attracted much attention recently. Carbon nanotubes are ideal reinforcing fibers for composites due to their high mechanical strength, high electrical and thermal conductivity. In this work, well-dispersible multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) was prepared by conventional acid treatment and followed by surface functionalization of carboxylated MWNT by using thionyl chloride, ethylene diamine, and 3-isopropenyl-a,a- dimethylbenzyl isocyanate (TMI) for in situ emulsion copolymerization with methyl methacrylate (MMA). Dispersion property of the surface functionalized MWNT, emulsion polymerization kinetics of MMA, and thermo-mechanical properties of MWNT/PMMA will be discussed. (KOSEF, R01-2005-000-10367-0) |
