Novel Synthesis of pH/ Temperature Sensitive Block copolymers via atom transfer radical Polymerization |

pH senstive block copolymers were synthesized by ATRP of sulfamethazine methacrylate monomer and amphiphilic diblock copolymers synthesized by ring opening polymerization of D,L-lactide/ε-caprolactone(LA/CL) and their sol-gel phase transition was investigated. Sulfamethazine oligomer(OSM) was introduced as a pH responsive moiety while PCLA-PEG-PCLA was used as biodegradable as well as temperature sensitive amphiphilic triblock copolymer. The OSM-PCLA-PEG-PCLA-OSM block copolymers were synthesized using Br-PCLA-PEG-PCLA-Br as an ATRP macroinitiator. Molecular weights of OSM were controlled by adjusting the monomer/initiator ratio. The macroinitiator was synthesized by coupling of 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide with HO-PCLA-PEG-PCLA-OH in the presence of triethylamine catalyst in dichloromethane. The block copolymer solution shows sol-gel transition by a little pH change in the range of 7.2 - 8.0. GPC and 1H-NMR were used for the characterization of the polymers synthesized. |
