제목 Facile and cost-effective synthesis of carbon coated halloystie-derived silicon nanotube anode for lithium ion battery
초록 Silicon is a promising material in lithium-ion battery anodes. However, its alloying chemistry of lithiation results unavoidable volumetric change during cycling and eventually causes deterioration of the electrode. To reduce the fracture of silicon, nanosized design sheds light on the drawback of the failure.
Considering the practical considerations, the cost of silicon nanoparticles with hollow geometry is another formidable challenge because synthetic methods of silicon nanoparticles is complicated and expansive. To utilize the advantage of silicon, the recovery of earth-abundant substances has attracted great attention for practical applications due to the low raw material cost by recycling resources. Here we synthesize hollow silicon nanotubes with a facile and low cost process from an halloysite clay in a natural state. Void spaces of halloysite can accommodate the volume change of Li-Si alloying reaction. A carbon coating has treated on a halloysite surface as a mechanical clamping layer and an electrical conductive pathway, benefitting to the inward volume expansion.
