Thin films designed to prevent gas or water molecules from permeating through a polymer film remains a major challenge for food, electronics, and even fuel cells. Reactive gases (e.g., O2 ) and moisture cause food to perish, create electrical instability in microelectronics, and reduce the life span of electrodes. Sol-gel derived inorganic thin films are strong candidate for simple, large area barrier layer. In the present work, sol-gel derived single layers aluminum oxide film are deposited on polymeric substrate by using photo-annealing method to investigate the gas barrier property of these thin film. |
