The synthesis, by the Suzuki coupling reaction, of a novel soluble blue light emitting polymer, poly{(9,9-diPOSS-2,7-fluorene-co-[2,5—bis(octyloxy)-1,4-phenylene]) (PFDOPPOSS) is reported. The synthesized polymer could be well characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis. This polymer was thermally stable and readily soluble in common organic solvent. The fluorescence quantum yield (ΦFL) of PFDOPPOSS both in solution and solid state were higher than PFDOP(poly{(9,9-dioctyl-2,7-fluorene-co-[2,5-bis(octyloxy)-1,4-phenylene]). Moreover, ITO/PEDOT-PSS/Polymer/Ca/Al LED device using this polymer as emitting layer showed a very stable blue light emission. The high thermal stability and the effective dilution effect of bulky POSS group improved the color stability of PFDOPPOSS blue emission and LED device performances- maximum brightness, luminance efficiency, and external quantum efficiency.
